Udayakumar, born in Kottayam District, holds a Diploma in Fine Arts from Ravi Varma College of Fine arts, Mavelikara. He has designed covers for more than two thousand books of prestigious publishers like DC Books, Prabhat Book House, Current Books, Sahithya Pravarthaka Sahakarana Sangham, Sahithya Academy, Kerala Balasahitya Institute, Kerala Saksharatha Samithi, Book Digest and M.G University.     He is the recipient of the NCERT National Award (for cover design and illustration); and the Bhima Balasahitya Award (for cover design and illustration). Besides performing stints as artist at leading Newspapers and periodicals, he has also exhibited his paintings in major cities of Kerala.
